Jack was born and raised in Manchester, UK. In 2022, he earned his integrated Master’s degree (MChem) in Medicinal and Biological Chemistry from The University of Edinburgh. During his undergraduate studies, he spent time working in the group of Prof. Stephen P. Thomas and conducted his master’s research under supervision of Prof. Scott A. Snyder at the University of Chicago, USA. Jack then moved back to Manchester to conduct his doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. David J. Procter, where he focused on the development of samarium diiodide-catalysed methods, and application of these reactions into the synthesis of sesquiterpenoid natural products. During his doctoral studies he also worked on an in-depth kinetic and mechanistic study of one of the methods he developed. In July 2026, he moved back across the pond and joined the Sarlah group as a postdoctoral fellow, where his work is focused on the total synthesis of bioactive terpenoids. When Jack isn’t in the lab, he usually enjoys an evening swim (except for the mosquitoes), listening to podcasts, and travelling to catch up with friends.
