Ankush was born and raised in West Bengal, India. He earned his B.Sc. degree in 2012 from Scottish Church College, University of Calcutta, and his M.Sc. in 2014 from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. He completed his Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur under the supervision of Prof. Modhu Sudan Maji, where he focused on Brønsted acid-catalyzed reaction method development and its application in total synthesis. Following his Ph.D., Ankush conducted postdoctoral research at the UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, USA under Prof. Myles W. Smith, working on the target-driven total synthesis of complex alkaloids such as spiroindimicins, rauvomine B, and stephaoxocanes. In November 2025, he joined the Sarlah Group as a postdoctoral fellow, where he is engaged in the total synthesis of bioactive natural products and the development of new synthetic methodologies. Outside the lab, Ankush enjoys listening to music, cooking, and traveling.
