Born in Ecuador, Guayaquil and relocating to Florida, Roberto attended the University of Florida and received a B.S. in chemistry. In his undergraduate studies, he worked for Professor Grenning on the development of the reductive Cope rearrangement. After graduating Roberto realized he wasn’t meant for warm climates and migrated to Illinois to join the Sarlah Lab as a graduate student to conduct the total synthesis of complex natural products.
