Graduate student, UIUC
B.S. Chemistry, University of South Carolina Upstate
David was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina to a very large and very loving family. After studying many different disciplines, he finally found his life's passion in chemistry and received his B.S. from the University of South Carolina Upstate in May of 2016 under the mentorship of Dr. Joshua Ruppel. His research there focused on the synthesis of new class of porphyrinoid compounds to study the interaction and binding of CD44, a protein associated with a certain types of cancer. David packed up and moved to the midwest during the summer of 2016 to begin his graduate career, joining the Sarlah group in October of 2016 to begin working on natural product total synthesis! In his spare time he enjoys pretending he knows how to play guitar, chopping wood, and reading Hunter S. Thompson.
