Maegen was born and raised in the small town of Hanover Park, Illinois. She attended the University of Evansville, where she received a BS in professional chemistry with minors in ethics, biology, and environmental science. While at Evansville Maegen acquired a diverse research background, working in organic methodology, neurophysiology, analytical chemistry, and natural product total synthesis design. Additionally, Maegen spent a summer at Eli Lilly as a drug discovery intern, focusing on the development of novel diabetic therapeutics. Currently in the Sarlah lab, she is working on the total synthesis of complex natural products. When not in lab, Maegen likes to hang out with friends, hike, wood burn, cook, and/or play saxophone.
